TUOLUMNE ROAD AREA

This area the section of Tuolumne road that runs between the junction of Gerber road and Tuolumne road and the junction of SR 108 and the exit to Twain Harte.   There are several places to turn off and park to gain access to roadside flowers as well as a couple of areas that are partially open fields that can have large masses of Monkeyflower, Meadowfoam, lilies, etc.    There are some seasonal seeps and water flows that support some unusual species that last for a relatively short time before the area dries up for the summer.  Be aware of the rather heavy traffic on Tuolumne road as you make your way to observe any roadside blooms.  In a “normal” weather year the blooming period begins in April and continues until about the middle of August with a few species that are early bloomers and several that are relatively late in blooming.
